Abstract
The territorial features of the Turkic appellative vocabulary in the toponymic system of North Kazakhstan have been identified. The sources of toponymic material were historical and modern resources: cartographic, archival, statistical, and documentary. Oikonymic, hydronymic, orographic terms, and microtoponyms are considered in the article. The analysis of the Turkic toponymic vocabulary made it possible to determine its place in the language landscape, to present toponymic categories in relation to designated geographical objects.
Turkic appellatives characterizing the natural and climatic realities of the region and ideological appellatives were identified. The frequency of the onyms (the proper names of any objects) use has been determined. The facts of direct and indirect use of appellatives in the geographical objects nominating process are revealed. The article focuses on the importance of studying toponymic landscapes. The revealed materials and facts are of interest to linguists, historians, geographers, sociologists etc. The results of the study can contribute to the formation of onomastic competence in the context of intercultural interaction.
