Abstract
This study addresses a critical gap in the integration of multilingual literacy and environmental awareness within writing instruction by developing innovative teaching materials based on the Adventure for Environmental Conservation (AFEC) method. AFEC combines problem-based and project-based learning approaches to enhance language learners’ creative and multilingual literacy through ecologically themed writing activities. Grounded in the principles of deep curriculum, this research applies the AFEC method as a pedagogical framework that supports interdisciplinary learning. Employing the R2D2 (Recursive, Reflective, Design, and Development) model, the study involved designing and testing poetry writing materials for multilingual learners. Effectiveness was assessed through pre- and post-tests administered to 30 students, revealing a significant correlation (r = 0.571, p = 0.001), which indicates a substantial improvement in students' writing performance. The results demonstrate that the AFEC-based materials are highly effective and categorized as “very feasible” for ecological poetry writing. More importantly, they foster multilingual expression by encouraging students to engage with environmental themes across linguistic boundaries. This study suggests the potential of AFEC to support multilingual literacy development in language learning settings, especially in underexplored areas like ecological education and creative writing.
