The paper deals with the terminology in the field of bilingualism, multilingualism and plurilingualism. The study aims to highlight the diachronic evolution of the word bilingualism and the emergence of neologisms plurilingualism, multilingualism and plurililingual intercultural competence and the development of meanings of these terms. In conclusion, the authors propose a sort of self-assessment plurilingual intercultural competence scale presented during a national conference by J. Bírová and which has yet to be scientifically reviewed in order to find full application in social practice.
