Kierkegaard’s interpretation of faith

The Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) is among those contemporary thinkers who attract considerable attention in the academic world. The present study analyzes Kierkegaard’s interpretation of faith and brings forth its main emphases. Having been influenced by Pietism, Kierkegaard stressed the importance of works which must be visible in the life of a Christian. He applied the demands required by faith into his own life and literary work. His views and interpretation of faith, however, had to necessarily lead him into the position of a critic who wished to reform the church.
